Kanadanhanhista riittää puhetta ja purinaa. Hiljattain nousi otsikoihin kun syövät maajussien jyvät. Ymmärrettävä raivo. Uimarantojen ulosteet ovat uimareista myös epämiellyttäviä. Puistoista puhumattakaan! Mitä tehdä tälle vieraslajille? Vieraslajille, joka on itse asiassa istutettu Suomeen joskus 60-luvun alkupuolella. Komea lintuhan tuo on kuin mikä ja tämä yksilö oli hyvin utelias kuvaustouhuistani. Saas nähdä mitä päättävät, pataan vai ruokintapeltoja perustamaan.

There’s been lots of talk in media about the Canadian goose recently. In the opinion of farmers they are nuisance at the fields because they eat most of the grains. The swimmers hate them because the mess the waterfronts with their poop. So, what to do with this alien species? Alien specie that has been planted in Finland back in the early 60’s. They are suggesting more permits to hunt them down or establishing feeding fields for them. Let’s see what happens. This one was very interested about my photography session.

Saturday classics – 30052020

Tänään täytyy korjata puutostila, josta klassikoiden soittoni on kärsinyt jo sunnuntai klassikoiden ajoista alkaen. En ole koskaan soittanut tätä huikeaa bändiä; Doobie Brothers pääsee soittolistalle tänään ansaitusti. Bändi on tehnyt pitkän uran vuodesta 1970 alkaen ja soittelevat edelleen. Tänä vuonna on tiedossa tunnustus Rock and Roll Hall of Fame:n taholta. Biisivalinta tänään on mukaansa tempaava: Long Train Runnin’ vuoden 1973 ‘The Captain and Me‘ alblumilta.

This band has been waiting on the shelves all the years of classics played in this blog. I’ve never played Doobie Brothers before and let’s give credit to this great band now. They have been playing since 1970 and this year they’ll honored by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Today’s song is from ‘The Captain and Me‘ -album from 1973.

Social distancing – Day 73

Suomi odottaa henkeään pidättäen rajoitusten purkua, joista aika paljon purkautuu tulevana maanantaina. Viimeinen tiukan eristyksen viikonloppu tiedossa ja ulkona on lähes helle. Saas nähdä miten kansa jaksaa malttaa vielä mielensä. Nuoret pääsevät kouluistansa, juhlivat valmistujaisia ja kesäloman alkua. Puutarhakauppa käy kiivaana ja ihmiset ovat lähtötelineissä kohti kesämökkejään. Odottava fiilis ilmassa on käsin kosketeltava.

The Finns are holding their breaths while waiting for the restrictions to ease up a bit at the beginning of July. This is the last weekend for the strict restrictions and outdoors is the most beautiful summer weather. Let’s see how well they can hold it. The summer holidays will begin for schools in some places and there are many students graduating. Gardening shops are doing great business and people are getting ready to go to their summer cottages. You can feel the thick waiting atmosphere hanging in the air.

Päivän saldo: arviointeja ja numeroita. Voi niitä reppanoita! Onneksi niillä on opettaja joka haluaa antaa vain hyviä numeroita. Ja onneksi suurimmaksi osaksi se saa niin tehdäkin.

Today’s results: evaluations and grades. Oh, those poor students! They’re lucky to have a teacher who wants to give only good grades. Most of the time that’s the case.

Social distancing – Day 70

Jälleen sellainen mitään sanomaton päivä. Kävin töissä ja pysyin siellä koko päivän. Sama jengi siellä laahusti kuin tähänkin asti. Uusia tulokkaita haastattelin ja valitsin. Taimenkasvastusta se tämäkin. Päivän kuva on harvinaisuus tässä blogissa; lintukuvat ovat niin vaikeita. Voidaan kuitenkin todeta, että kesä on tullut!

One of those days that nothing really happens. Went to work and interviewed some potential applicants and made some student selections. Kind of growing plants this as well. The photo is quite rare in this blog; I find photographing birds really difficult. There is a saying in Finland that the summer has arrived when the barn swallowers arrive. So, it’s summer now!

Social distancing – Day 69

Viljely hömpötys jatkuu nyt täällä kotioloissa. Pistin vielä siemeniä itämään turvepotteihin vähän myöhässä. Kasvattelen parvekkeella jos eivät joudu kasvimaalle asti. Pitkäaikaiset lukijat ja kaikki minut tuntevat tietävät ettei minua kiinnosta tämä viljelypuoli puupennin vertaa. Pakkopullaa ollut aina tähän asti, mikä nyt sitten on muuttunut. Ehkä se ajatus, että se tuo mielihyvää ja luo elämän lankaa sinne potilaalle. Tuo potilas muuten totesi tänään, että ensi kesänä kun hän pääsee sinne palstalle kasvattamaan! Toisaalta oman käden jälki on aina palkitsevaa oli se sitten missä muodossa tahansa.

This horticultural propagation fewer is continuing here at home. Seeded some more today to grow on my balcony if they don’t get ready for the lot. Everyone who know me knows that I don’t care much for this vegetable growing and that I’m more interest in the landscapes, trees, flowers and hardscape. So, what have changed. May be it’s the thought that how much this vegetable lot means to the patient and gives her a lifeline. She mentioned today that she’ll be cultivating next year again! And of course there is the feeling you get from getting things done with your own hands, whatever it is.

Social distancing – Day 68

Aamulla heräsin hyvissä ajoin ja suuntasin takaisin pellolle kylvötöihin ilman sen kummempia kolotuksia tai jäykistyneitä jäseniä (pieni ihme). Porkkanan siementä meni maahan irtosiemenenä ja nauhassa. Keltaisista porkkanoista on tullut viime vuosina meidän suosikkeja, joten niitä kylvin enemmän kuin perinteisiä oransseja. Maahan pääsi myös raitapunajuuri, valkosipulit ja vähän pinaattia. Siinä oli vain neljä penkkiä, miten ihmeessä mä saan sen palstan täyteen. No, se jää mietittäväksi kahden viikon päähän. Rankka päivä tämäkin pitsiharsojen, käytävämattojen ja kasteluiden kanssa. Nämä paikalliset äidin ystävät muuten syöttävät minua täällä kilpaa niin ruuan määrässä kuin laadussa. Ihania ovat!

Woke up this morning without any aches from yesterday’s shoveling. Went pack to the vegetable lot early in the morning to work some more. I seeded carrots, yellow and orange, beetroot, spinach and garlic. The yellow carrot has become our favourite, so I seeded it more than the regular orange. Hard day this one was also with setting the covers for the plants and pathways, and of course the watering. Now they’ll have to survive on their own for two weeks, let’s hope for some rain. Mom’s friends feed me here like if they were in a competition between themselves who does more and better food. Oh, they’re so lovely!

Social distancing – Day 67

Päivä meni pellolla huhkiessa ja sen verran sain valmista, että aamulla pääsee kylvöhommiin. Sillä edellytyksellä että jos sattuu pääsemään sängystä ylös. Toki venyttelin, mutta aika lailla kolottaa selkäpuolelle. No, sellaiset pienet kolotukset unohtuu nopeasti kun siellä on niin mukava möyriä. Olen kaivannut jotain tällaista kunnollista fyysistä tekemistä tässä etätyöskentelyn aikaan. Nyt sitä sitten saa roppakaupalla 😀

The day passed quickly while creating seedbeds and managed so well that I can do some seeding in the morning. If I’m able to get out of bed that is. I did some proper stretching afterwards, but the bag is a bit stiff. It will go by fast when there is something fun to do. I’ve missed this kind of physical work during this distance teaching period. Now I got it, may a bit too much at a time 😀
