Lumet sulaa ja kevät tulla jolkottaa, ainakin hetkellisesti. Voidaan hyvinkin heittäytyä odottelemaan lämpöä ja aurinkoa The Doorsin tahdissa. ‘Waiting for the Sun‘ ilmestyi vihdoin vuonna 1969 ‘Morrison Hotel‘ albumilla. Alun perin biisi oli tarkoitettu ‘Waiting for the Sun‘ -albumille, mutta viime metreillä se jätettiin pois.

Snow is melting and it smells like an early spring, momentarily. We can enjoy waiting of the sun and warmth with The Doors’ song ‘Waiting for the Sun‘. The song was finally released at 1969 at the ‘Morrison Hotel‘ album. It was written for the ‘Waiting for the Sun‘ album but was left out at the last moment.

Saturday Classics – 20022021

Kuusikymmenluvun vuosista olen varmaan soittanut eniten 1967 julkaistuja kipaleita. Ihmeellinen vuosi, miten sinne on mahtunutkin niin paljon hyvää musiikkia! Päivän biisi kolautti Beatlesin ykkössijalta listoilla ja kipusi korkeimmalle pallille ainakin Atlantin tuolla puolla. The Turtes lohkaisi tämän ‘Happy Together‘ biisin saman nimiseltä albumilta singlenä. Biisin ovat kirjoittaneet Garry Bonner ja Alan Gordon. Covereita biisistä on tehty paljon ja bonuksena kuulemme Leningrad Cowboysien ja Aleksandrovin Puna-armeijan kuoron version konsertista, jota olin kuuntelemassa Senaatintorilla vuonna 1994. Mielenkiintoinen olisi myös Fank Zappan versio, mutta siitä ei löytynyt kuin tämä live taltiointi. Taisi olla Fankilta kunnianosoitus bändikavereilleen, sillä The Turtlesien jäsenet, Howard Kaylan ja Mark Volman soittelivat tuohon aikaan The Mothers of Invention -bändissä. Tämän tahdeissa on hyvä alkaa siivoamaan uunia. Mukavaa viikonloppua kaikille!

From all the years of 1960’s I’ve played most songs released at 1967. Wonderful year for popular music! Today’s song by The Turtles knocked The Beatles off from the number one position at least at the other side of Atlantic. ‘Happy Together‘ was released as a single from a album by same name. The song was written by Barry Bonner and Alan Gordon. There are quite a few covers made from this song and the bonus video is by The Leningrad Cowboys and Alexandrov Red Army Choir. The first one is a Finnish band and the latter is Russian army choir. They played a great concert in Helsinki at 1994. If you look real hard you’ll find me there 🙂 An interesting version of the song is also Frank Zappa‘s live version from 1970. At the time The Turtles men, Howard Kaylan and Mark Volman were playing at Zappa’s The Mothers of Invention band. This is good music to start cleaning the oven. Have a nice weekend everyone!

Saturday Classics – 13022021

Neil Youngia ei ole kuultu sitten Sunnuntaiklassikoiden, joten korjataan tilanne tällä yhdellä 60-luvun hienoista biiseistä. ’Down by the River’ löytyy vuoden 1969 ’Grazy Horse’ albumilta. Tarina on traaginen, mutta biisi on vain kaikesta huolimatta hieno. Video on kuvattu ’Big Sur’ festareilla ja laatu sen mukainen. Video itsessään on jo klassikko jos oikein tarkkaan katsoo.

we haven’t heard Neil Young since the days of Sunday Classics, so lets correct the situation today with this wonderful song from the sixties. ’Down by the River’ is from the 1969 ’Grazy Horse’ album. A sad story, but a great song. This video is a classic by it’s own, filmed at Big Sur festival an you can find dome familiar faces there.

Jatketaan 70-luvulla ja tänään ääneen pääsee Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel. Bändi lohkaisi ‘Make Me Smile (Come Up and See Me)‘ -biisin vuonna 1975 singlenä ‘The Best Years of Our Lives‘ albumilta. Sinkku kipusi listoilla ja sitä myytiin yli 1,5 miljoonaa kopiota ympäri maapalloa. Biisi on bändin laulusolistin, Steve Harleyn, käsialaa. Omia versioitaan tästä biisistä on tehnyt yli 120 artistia/bändiä, mm. Duran Duran, Suzy Quatro, Erasure, The Wedding Present ja moni muu.

Let’s stay at the 70’s and today we’ll listen to Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel. They released ‘Make Me Smile (Come Up and See Me)’ song at 1975 as a single from their ‘The Best Years of Our Lives‘ album. The singe was a huge success, it sold over 1,5 million copies world wide and more than 120 covers have been made of it by such artists as Duran Duran, Suzy Quatro, Erasure and The Wedding Present. The song is written by the lead singer, Steve Harley.
