Saturday Classics – 03062023

Päivän biisi tulee 1970-luvun alkupuolelta. Lunta, räntää, koleeta ja harmaata, niin eihän se muuta voi olla kuin sadepäivän tuntua. Tulee pitkä talvi jos se nyt jo alkoi. The Fortunes levytti tämän ‘Here Comes Rainy Day Feeling Again‘ biisinsä vuonna 1971 ja kipusi sillä listoille. Biisin ovat kirjoittaneet Tony Macaulay, Roger Cook ja Roger Greenaway. Tämä brittibändi porskuttaa edellene, tosin varsin eri kokoonpanolla kuin tätä esittäessä.

Today’s play is inspired by the current weather; snow yesterday, cold, rainy and grey. It’s going to be a long winter if it started already. ‘Here Comes Rainy Day Feeling Again‘ was released by The Fortunes at 1971. It is written by Tony Macaulay, Roger Cook and Roger Greenaway. This British band is still performing, yet the players have chanced few times over the years.

Euroviisuviikonloppuna voi hyvinkin soitella discoa ja purkaa jännitystä tämän tahdissa. Tämä Sylvesterin biisi soi discoissa vuodesta 1978 ja kyllä se mukavasti keinuttaa edelleen. ‘You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)‘ löytyy Sylvesterin ‘Step II‘ albumilta ja sen ovat kirjoittaneet James Wirrick ja Sylvester James.

It’s Eurovision Song Contest weekend and hopes are high for the Finnish guy, Käärijä. Mean time we can release some excitement dancing with Sylvester‘s 1978 hit, ‘You Make Me Feel  (Mighty Real)’. The song can be found from his ‘Step II‘ album and he co-wrote it with James Wirrick.

Lomaltapaluublues! Melkein 😁 Supertrampin hieno ’From Now On’ on hieman sellainen ”maanantaikipale” toivoa täynnä. Biisi löytyy vuoden 1977 ’Even in the Quierest Moments…’ -albumilta. Biisin on Rick Davisin käsialaa.

May be this is the end of the holiday blues, or not 😁 Today’s song is such a song about every day blues with great hope. ’From Now On’ was released from the ’Even in the Quietest Moments…’ album at 1977. It is written by Rick Davies.

Saturday Classics – 15042023

Populaarikulttuurin yksi suurista nukkui pois tällä viikolla. Mary Quant (11.2.1930 – 13.4.2023) oli 60-luvulla muodin mullistaja tuomalla minihameen tietoisuuteemme sekä värikkäät silmämeikit. Hän oli osatekijänä  60-luvun “Mod” kulttuurissa (modernistit), porukassa jotka uudistivat sen ajan nuorisokulttuuria ensin briteissä ja sittemmin maailmalla. Olin aivan varma, että Mary mainittaisiin aikalaistensa biiseissä, mutta ainoa maininta löytyi tästä The Dylansien ‘Mary Quant in Blue, jolla ei loppupeleissä taida olla paljoakaan tekemistä Maryn kanssa. Soitetaan se silti. Biisi on ilmestynyt vuonna 1992.

One of the pop-culture icons passed away this week at the age of 93. Fashion designer Mary Quant (11.2.1930 – 13.4.2023) introduced us with mini skirts and flagrant eye make ups back in the sixties. She was a member of the Mod subculture in London during the 60’s. I was quite sure she would have been mentioned in songs from that era, but all I found was this song by The Dylans from 1991. ‘Mary Quant in Blue’ doesn’t have that much to do with the original person, but let’s play it anyway.
